Your Pet’s Best Friend in Veterinary Care!
Booking your appointment has never been easier.
Cats and dogs can sometimes slip out of the house for all kinds of reasons—whether they’re being curious, scared, or anxious. When that happens, it can be incredibly stressful trying to track them down and bring them home safely.
At the Veterinary Medical Center of St. Lucie County, we’re committed to keeping your pet safe, both in and out of our clinic. One of the simplest and most reliable ways to do this is by getting your cat or dog microchipped. It’s a quick, safe way to ensure your pet always has a way back to you.
A microchip for cats and dogs is a tiny device, about the size of a grain of rice, that we place under your pet’s skin between their shoulder blades. The procedure is as easy as giving a vaccination, and we can do it during your next visit. Each microchip has a unique ID number that links to your contact information in the microchip company’s database. While it’s your responsibility to register and update this information, we’re more than happy to help you get everything set up when you’re
here! If you ever move, change your phone number, or transfer ownership of your pet, don’t forget to update the database with your new details.
If your pet gets lost and ends up at a shelter, animal control center, or vet’s office, the staff will scan the microchip to retrieve the ID number. They’ll then contact the microchip company to get your information and reach out to let you know where your pet is.
Even if your pet wears a collar with ID tags, a microchip is still essential. Unlike collars, which can break, fall off, or be removed, microchips are a permanent form of identification. They can’t be lost or damaged, ensuring your pet always has a reliable link back to you. Pets with microchips are much more likely to be returned home, making it a simple but crucial step in keeping your furry friend safe.
